Estimadas familias,

After a bit of a break, we are pleased to share an extended newsletter with you this week. We are celebrating our renewed Learning Commons, a funding update from our EC Enrichment Society for the 2024-25 school year as well as a learning snapshot from Sra. Jodi's grade 3 class.

In addition to this week's sharing, we would like to let you know that we have posted School Planning Survey Results (SDP, Fees, Budget) for this school year. This brief report can be found on our website at: https://eugenecoste.cbe.ab.ca/school-planning-engagement

Our Assistant Principal Sra. Jackie would like to remind all families that free learning support, through Khan Academy, is available online. Parents can set up family accounts to help support students with math, science and social-emotional learning. Instructional videos are available in both English and Spanish. You can find out more at: https://www.khanacademy.org/

Finally, we are looking forward to celebrating our grade 3 students and the broader CBE Spanish Bilingual Program at Que Pasa, which will take place on Tuesday, May 7 at 1 pm at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. There still are available tickets that we can invite other members of our community to access. If you are interested in celebrating Spanish Bilingual programming with us, you can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster at: https://www.ticketmaster.ca/event/11006075D236279A

Last night we engaged with our team of parents who lead our School Council and Eugene Coste Enrichment Society. As always, I am humbled by the strong relationships, communication and support between this group of volunteers and our administrative team. Our Enrichment Society approved over $17,000.00 in funding requests for next year in addition to the amazing support received this year to fund our Learning Commons and artist residencies. This new financial infusion will cover the costs of several residencies (Tennis, Latin Dance, Afro- Canadian music) along with supports for students such as emergency food funds, digital subscription to Mystery Science and funding for fine art supplies. We make these requests so that we can offer enrichment to our students, while protecting families from additional fees. Our schoolbudget is very limited and prioritizes staffing and basic operational costs. Your supportmakes an incredible difference in what we can offer to our students!

Thank you to Sra. Jodi for taking the time to share with our parents how she has woven indigenous pedagogy, through the lens of the Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework, into her grade 3 SpanishBilingual program. A highlight of her sharing is how she is accessing the four domains of the medicine wheel to articulate how student identify themselves as learners.

Wheel

To Be – Spirit Domain Quienes somos …Students created mini-booklets en español that describe their learning spirit- who they are as individuals and what makes them unique or special.

To Belong- Heart Domain Soy parte de… (our school-wide focus this year). Students createdjigsaw pieces that represent all of the ways that they belong to our community. Students also created a collaborative art piece, proudly showcased in the classroom. Belonging is also cultivated each day in the classroom!

To Do- Body Domain Cuido mi cuerpo…work in progress!

To Know – Mind Domain Yo puedo… Students identified “I can statements” that highlight key areas of learning (topics and skills) for this year.

Learning Commons

Just look at what we achieved together! Muchísimas gracias a nuestro EC Enrichment Society for the $23,000.00 investment which helped make this possible. Thank you as well to Cody J. for that fantastic standing desk, which was generously donated by a corporate contact. It fits the new space perfectly!

Reminder – Please double-check your MyCBE Account– Fees
