PROTOCOL: PICKING UP / BRINGING YOUR CHILD MID-DAY
Parents picking students please call the school 30 minutes prior to the pickup time and request their child to come to the office. When you arrive please come to the front door and ring the bell. Once we have verified your identity we will release your child. All pick-ups must be arranged with the office before 3 pm Mon-Thur and 1 pm on Fridays. If you call after these times we cannot guarantee that we will be able to locate your child.
When dropping your child off after 9:10 am, please bring your child to the front doors and they will be buzzed in. We ask parents to please remain outside and staff will accompany students to their classrooms.
Visitors & Volunteers Sign-In
All parents, visitors and volunteers must report directly to the office and wear a Visitor name tag. This is done for the safety and security of all students. Former students are also asked to check in with the office upon arrival and will only be allowed on site at the discretion of the administration.
Midday Drop-Off / Pick-Up
Parents need to come into the building (via the front doors) when you are picking your child up in the middle of the day for an appointment or because they are not feeling well and we have called you. In this case, come to the main office and sign out your child in a binder located at the front reception. We will call your child’s teacher and have your child come down to meet you. Please do not go down to the classroom to get your child as this is highly disruptive to the learning environment. The same applies for picking your child up early for an appointment or early vacation. Come in via the main doors, sign them out and then we will ensure that they come to the office with all their needed items (coat, backpack, lunch-kit) so that they can leave directly with you.
End-of-Day Pick-Up
If your child does not take the bus, please be aware that they will be dismissed from their grade specific door when the bell rings. All students are dismissed at 3:40 pm. Parents are not required to come into the building to pick up their children. There is simply not enough room. Please wait outside your child’s door until a teacher from that grade recognizes you (or your child sees you) and then we will let them out of the building.
Lockdowns
All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.
Evacuation Procedures
In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
Video Surveillance Technology
The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) section 33(b). The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.
Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.
For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
