Special Council Events - Upcoming
We are specifically looking for volunteers for:
- Casino Lead: preparing for the next casino in two years (our biggest fundraiser!) starts now. Our current lead is ready to mentor a new casino lead to fundraise so many of the enrichment opportunities and resources the student's enjoy.
Please don't hesitate to reach out as we continue to engage volunteers and contribute to positive experiences for the students and staff at Eugene Coste.
Kind regards, Melinda

Impact of Volunteerism
Thank you to all parents who provide support as volunteers. Your efforts in the school, on field trips or at home make a huge difference in terms of what we can offer students.
Many initiatives and events would not be possible without the support of volunteers. You are needed in order to continue providing:
- Family-friendly, community building events (Welcome Back Picnic, Year-End Fiesta, Family Dance, decorating for special events)
- Hot Lunch (organization and distribution day of)
- Fundraising intiatives (Hot Lunch, Casino, Purdy’s etc)
- Memory Book
- Supervision support on field trips (these will be cancelled if we do not meet adult:child ratios)
Fundraising directly impacts student experiences and increases the purchasing power of our school. The publicly funded school budget is limited in scope and priortizes staffing and foundational resources. Fundraising provides us with enrichment dollars that allow us to enhance programming without additional fees to families:
- Artist/Athletic Residencies
- Furniture modernization (our Learning Commons!)
- Learning supports for students (flexible seating options, fidget tools, digital learning subscriptions, PE equipment, Music supplies, high quality Art supplies)
- Special improvement projects (our playground/sports court, and now, our Courtyard)
As we look towards next year and beyond, many of our key roles within School Council and Enrichment Society will require replacement as families “age out” of our school. In particular we are seeking individuals who are interested in participating/sharing leadership with:
- Casino (our biggest fundraiser – over $60,000.00 every 2 years)
- Memory Book
- Hot Lunch coordination
- Future Council and Enrichment Society members
If you require support with volunteer process, please contact our office or check out our website at: https://eugenecoste.cbe.ab.ca/volunteer You can also email our School Council /EnrichmentTeams if you are interested in supporting these intiatives. ecsschoolcouncil@gmail.com

For school-based volunteering (field trips, classroom helper), please contact your child’s teacher directly.
One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

About Our School Council
Welcome to the Eugene Coste School Council and Enrichment Society!
We look forward to getting to know you over the next several years and hope that you will choose to be involved in our School Council and Enrichment Society. We believe that all people are important and bring unique perspectives, opinions, and experiences to our group, and we encourage each of you to share your skills and have your voice heard.
The School Council acts as a bridge between school and parent communication, working closely with the administration and different committees made up of parent volunteers.
The Enrichment Society runs the fundraising and works directly with the administration to fund projects and items that – you guessed it! – enrich the student experience.
Our School Council and Enrichment Society work together and collaborate to do the absolute most we can for all of our children. We meet once per month from September to May (excluding December).
You are invited to attend our meetings as a guest.
Please sign in, sit back, and observe what we currently have going on and what we are starting.
To learn more about our groups, including past and current projects, please visit our website and Facebook pages – Be sure to join the Eugene Coste School Council & Enrichment Society page!
