Muchas gracias a nuestro equipo de padres- Eugene Coste School Council
Last night our School Council led by co-chairs Baylea Willan and Melinda Foran hosted a parent and child session called “Bring Them Closer”, facilitated by mental health professional Connie Jakab. It was great to see so many of our families across kindergarten to grade 5 engaged in this
session! Connie did a great job of tailoring the information sharing to suit the age group of our children so that it remained informative and engaging.
Children and parents were invited to reflect on the impact of emotions and how they translate to behaviour. We learned about the power of our brains and how adults are important role-models for emotional regulation (“You are your child’s pre-frontal cortex”) and relationship-building (Don’t send the hurting away (go to your room!!). instead, seek to understand).
I particularly loved hearing children share their thoughts and the openness of families,
in the presence of their children, to express their desires and challenges. Here are some other great pieces of advice from Connie on ways to connect:
It was reaffirming to hear how much of what Connie was sharing is reflected in our social-emotional teaching at school. In fact, one of our main School Development Plan goals is having children learn to recognize their feelings and the impact that they have on learning and on their relationships with others.
Place-Based Learning Presentations- Haysboro 1km Radius!
As a team, we have determined that the best way to showcase student work from our place-based residency with Yellowsteps learning is through a week of presentations hosted in our Learning Commons, through an ‘installation”- style format.
Grade teams are designing learning displays that will be presented by each class during the week of May 27-30. In order to manage the sharing of 370 students, we needed to provide each class their own 40 minute block where they act as hosts for visiting parents/guardians.
It is important that guests arrive on time! This is not an open-house. Students will provide bilingual presentations in teams or as a whole group. You will then have the opportunity to visit other learning displays with you student hosts.
We understand that the assigned block may not be ideal for your schedule. We appreciate your understanding as we work to personalize sharing for each group.
¡Que Pasa! On May 7 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium
What an incredible success! Felicidades a todos nuestros alumnos y el equipo de grado 3.
Our students demonstrated bravery, resilience, dedication, perseverance and so much talent! We are so proud of young performers and of our identity as a proud Spanish Bilingual Program within the Calgary Board of Education!
