Estimadas familias,
Pasamos una semana muy activa aqui en Escuela Eugene Coste. Our busy week was filled with 2 separate visits to Blackfoot Crossing - myself and the grade 4 team enjoyed a full day on Wednesday Oct 18. Then Sra. Jackie and Spanish Visiting Teacher Srta. Clara participated in a professional learning day through the ATA on Thursday Oct 19. Several classes also took advantage of the great weather and enjoyed walking trips within our Haysboro community. Learning opportunties are available to us both near and far! As well, we had special visitors pass through our halls on Monday Oct 16. We welcomed Trustee Nancy Close back to our building and met our local MLA, Diana Batten. Our Education Director Martin Poirier also visited us 2 days in a row! He joined our visitors on Monday as well as joined Sra.Jackie and I for our regular leadership meeting on Oct 17. Our guests were very impressed with the quality of learning at our school. We focused our visit on how we provide calm, safe and welcoming spaces as well as highlighted how Spanish is taught across disciplines.
Last night we had the pleasure of participating in our monthly School Council and EC Enrichment Society meetings. We had another fantastic turnout of parents in attendance. During the School Council portion of our evening, Srta. Van Eerden provided a great presentation on how flexible seating opportunities exist in her classroom. Flexible seating isn't only about "fancy" wiggle stools or specialized furniture. Allowing students to sit in different locations, work on their tummies or stand are all easily employed in our classrooms. The use of a clipboard, privacy folders and vertical surfaces also provide students with opportunties to meet their needs. Flexible seating in our classrooms is available to all students! I have attached a visual support that Srta. Van Eerden included in her presentation to share with you. Please do not hesitate to reach out and ask your child's teacher about how flexible seating arrangements are made available in their classroom.
As for the work of our Enrichment Society, actions to fund our Wish List items are on their way to you. Keep an eye out for future communication regarding the ordering of Eugene Coste "swag" (T-shirts, hoodies, touques with our amazing logo) as well as an upcoming fundraiser for Purdy's Chocolates. We are grateful for the efforts of all of our dedicated parents who volunteer their time in Council and Enrichment.
