Stay informed

October 16, 2026 Queridas Familias,

As we approach Halloween, we are looking forward to celebrating together in a fun, safe, and inclusive way. Thank you for helping us create a positive school environment where all students can participate and feel welcome.

Halloween Reminders

Halloween is just around the corner! As a reminder, our school follows CBE nutrition guidelines and, therefore, candy, treats, and other food items may not be distributed at school. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain healthy school environments for all students.

Students will participate in a Costume Parade on October 30. We encourage creativity and fun while ensuring costumes remain appropriate for a school setting. Please remember that costumes must be:

Respectful and inclusive of all cultures, identities, and beliefs. Free of masks that cover the face

Free of weapons or weapon replicas Free of violent, graphic, or gory themes

We look forward to seeing our students showcase their creativity and school spirit!

Learning from the Land: Our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

At Eugene Coste School, our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation includes creating meaningful opportunities for students to learn from the land, connect with Indigenous perspectives, and develop a deeper understanding of the histories, cultures, and traditions that have shaped our community and country.

We would like to congratulate our Grade 4 students on their recent land-based learning walk. Through exploring the natural environment and engaging in place-based learning, students had the opportunity to build connections with the land while deepening their understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and being. These experiences help bring learning to life and support our ongoing journey toward reconciliation through education, respect, and understanding.

We are proud of our Grade 4 learners for their curiosity, engagement, and thoughtful participation in this important learning experience.

Thank You, School Council and Enrichment Society

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our School Council and Enrichment Society for their continued support of our school community. We greatly appreciate the thoughtful discussions surrounding our School Development Plan and your commitment to supporting new initiatives that enhance learning opportunities for our students. Your partnership and dedication make a meaningful difference.

Celebrating Our Safety Patrols

A special thank you goes to our student patrols for the responsibility, leadership, and commitment they demonstrate each day. Their efforts help create a safer environment for everyone arriving at and leaving school. We are also grateful to the staff leaders who support and mentor our patrol team.

Finally, thank you to our families and community members for respecting parking regulations, crosswalks, and traffic safety procedures around our school. Your cooperation plays an important role in keeping our students safe and sets a positive example for all members of our school community.

Together, we continue to make our school a safe, caring, and welcoming place for everyone.

CBE Student Well-Being Survey

On Thursday, October 22, Grade 4 and 5 students will participate in the CBE Well-Being Student Survey. The survey explores areas such as belonging, positive relationships, safety, self-regulation and overall well-being. Results help our school and CBE identify opportunities to further support student success and well-being.

Alberta Education Screening Assessments

Students have completed their Alberta Education screening assessments. If your child was absent during the screening window, they may not have results available for one or more assessments. For more information on these screeners, please refer to the Government of Alberta literacy and numeracy screening.

Individual screening results will be sent home in students' backpacks during the week of October 26. We encourage families to review the results and discuss any questions with their child's teacher during our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 26 and 27. These screening assessments provide valuable information about student literacy and numeracy skills and help us identify strengths and areas for continued growth. We look forward to partnering with families as we support student success throughout the year.

ECS Has Swag!

A huge thank you to Yvette at MySchoolZone for helping Eugene Coste School look its very best! We are incredibly grateful for all of the fantastic ECS swag that has been provided to support our school spirit.

A special thank you goes to ECS Council and the Enrichment Society for sponsoring our new teacher t-shirts. Our staff are proud to wear their Eugene Coste gear and show off their school pride throughout the year.

From t-shirts to school spirit items, it's safe to say that ECS sure has swag! Thank you for your continued support in helping us build a strong sense of community and belonging for both students and staff. We appreciate your partnership and generosity!

Student Council and Enrichment Society

We are sharing two sign-up links: one for the Student Council and the other for the Enrichment Society. This will help us gather a list of interested parents who wish to be more directly involved such as becoming members, volunteering for events, or helping with Fundraising activities. Thank you for considering your role in the school community. We look forward to your responses.
