Estimadas familias,
This morning is a reminder of where we are in the season- snow and cold temps are around the corner- so please ensure your children arrive to school with clothing that is appropriate for the weather. We also notice that our Lost and Found is overflowing with beautiful clothing. Teachers are taking students for tours to find lost items, but many things are still not being claimed. As we have a very young population that does not always recognize their own items, it is critical that clothing is labelled. We have a much higher success rate returning items that way. Please take a moment to label your child's layering items (hoodies, jackets, snowpants) as well as their shoes! Please also talk to your children about the importance of picking up and putting away their personal belongings, and practicing this consistenly at home. We are fortunate to have adults and student helpers that bring items to the Lost and Found or return labelled items to students. The actual learning though, is to be mindful and responsible for one's own belongings. If someone is always swooping in to do the work, the skill will never be learned!
Wednesday November 6 will be a busy day at school!
- Fall photo retakes will take place first thing in the morning. This is intended for retakes and for students who were away on the September picture day. Students who have planned for retakes will have their photos taken in Rm 1 - which is just across from our office.
- Remembrance Day Service will start at 10:45am in the gym. All families are welcome to attend. We would also like to invite any students in Guides, Brownies, Scouts, Beavers etc to wear their uniform for our service. Thank you to our Grade 4 teachers, students and to music specialist Srta. Jenn for organizing what will surely be a touching service.
Fall Break Reminder
For a second year, the CBE has included a fall well-being break in the calendar. Students will not have classes this Friday November 8. Staff will be in the building engaging in professional learning focused on our Indigenous Education theme called "Maatoomsi'Pookaiks", a Blackfoot term that means Children First. This is a significant day of learning for all staff in the CBE as we continue to work together to improve outcomes for our indigenous students as well as build intercultural awareness among our communities. The fall break will continue until November 13th, with school reopening on Thursday November 14.
We are grateful to the parent and community volunteers who have stepped up to ensure that our Casino will run over November 10-11. Thank you to our Eugene Coste Enrichment Society and in particular to the casino committee lead Maria Ritz for continuing our involvement in our biggest fundraising opportunity.
Shortly after returning from Fall Break, we will meet once again with our School Council and Enrichment Society teams on November 21. We look forward to learning about Srta. Micah's experience at Stampede School and we are also planning to share a proposal for a sensory room project. Please join us to learn more!
As our November break approaches, I am filled with gratitude for the immense support that exists for our school community. Our students always come first, in every decision we make as a team, and it is remarkable to see that play out through the ongoing support of our families and beyond our walls as well.
Saludos,
Sra. Andrea Riquelme, Principal
