Estimadas familias,
Parent-Teacher Conferences
We are looking forward to welcoming all families back to Escuela Eugene Coste for our November Parent-Teacher conferences, happening this Thursday and Friday. This is an important check-in time to ask about your child’s learning. Teachers will share examples of what they can do, and any next steps for growth moving forward. The next formal piece of communication will be the term 1 Report Cards, which will be released on January 30th. This does not mean that you need to wait until each formal conference or report to learn about how your child is doing at school. Teachers can always make time outside of designated instructional hours to connect with you. For this week’s conference, you may wish to ask specific questions to have a deeper understanding of how your child learns. You might consider:
- Does my child understand and follow instructions right away or do you need to repeat them?
- Does my child start their work independently?
- Do you notice if my child has all of their materials ready/organized for learning?
As a parent, I could sometimes see clues of how my child might present themselves as a learner based on how they manage routines and tasks at home. If you notice that you are constantly doing things for your child, such as hanging up coats, removing lunch kits from backpacks, or tucking in chairs at the table, try to release some of that adult support and work with your child to build the skills to manage these routines on their own. Building a sense of personal responsibility at home, can transfer to success at school. Even the smallest adjustments, when addressed consistently over time, can make a difference.
Havana Cuban Dance Residency – Nov 23 – Dec 7, 2023
We are thrilled to welcome dance instructor Marcos Ravelo from Havana Cuban Dance Studio to Escuela Eugene Coste this week! This is extra special for us as we had originally booked this artist to work with our students for the 2020-21 school year. Contracts were signed, dates set and then we had to cancel due to health restrictions impacting activities at school. We are grateful for the support of our Eugene Coste Enrichment Society for funding the cost of this residency K-5 for all students. This allows us to provide high-quality and culturally authentic programming for your children without passing costs along to families.
Students will learn a range of Latin dances that many of you might be familiar with such as Merengue, Salsa, Bachata and Reggaetón. We are looking forward to sharing this learning with you during our Winter Learning Celebrations, taking place on December 6 and December 7. Due to the size of our student population, we are unable to accommodate all students and families on one night. Please take note of the following dates and times for each performance:
