Welcome back!
We are so pleased to welcome our students and families back to Eugene Coste School! Our staff have been working hard to prepare the school and classrooms, and we are excited to see our students and begin another wonderful year of learning together. As part of our communication processes and to help strengthen the partnership between home and school, you will receive every Friday a weekly communication with information pertinent to our learning community. These may include important events, learning opportunities, school priorities, and celebrations. There are two other methods of communication we use to ensure information is accessible and predictable; our Eugene Coste School Website and our teachers bi-weekly updates. For any urgent communication, we ask that you please call the office.
Your Child’s Welcome Communication
On Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., you received an email from your child’s teacher welcoming your child to their classroom and to our school community. The email let you know your child’s teacher and included important information for the first day of school.
If you did not receive an email, please contact the school office. If you are unable to connect with us before Monday, please still attend school on Monday. Look for a staff member with a red Eugene Coste School vest who will be happy to help you find your child’s teacher and meeting location.
First Day – Where to Meet Your Teacher
To help make our first morning organized and welcoming, we will have designated meeting areas on the school field for each grade level nearest their entrance door. The teacher will be there by 9:00am
Look for your child's name and teacher picture. Please have your child go to their designated area to meet their teacher. Each teacher will be wearing a red supervision vest so students and families can easily identify them. Your child’s welcome email included the entry door map.
Our staff will be outside and available to help, so please don't hesitate to ask if you are unsure where to go.
Our School Council would love to meet new parents and is inviting new Kinder families to meet at the playground after drop off for coffee and conversation.
A Note About Class Placements
As we begin the school year, please remember that classes are still fluid as we welcome new students. We work very hard to create balanced classes and thoughtful placements for all of our students; however, enrolment numbers can fluctuate due to system processing times and/or other matters during September.
We do our very best to get placements right from the beginning, and teachers have put a lot of time and effort into creating balanced classes; however, we may need to make some adjustments as September progresses in order to maintain balanced classes and provide the best possible learning environment for all of our students. This information will be communicated. We know our teachers have done some extraordinary work in balancing classes!
Parking & Student Safety
The first morning of school is always particularly busy. We ask everyone to please be patient and mindful of parking and traffic around the school.
Please do not enter or park in the staff parking lot, block any driveways or the bus stops. Keeping these areas clear as it is important for the safe arrival of staff, students and school buses.
Whenever possible, we encourage families to walk to school or park a short distance away and walk the final block or two. A little extra time and patience on our first morning will help us ensure a safe and positive start for everyone.
Save the Date – Meet the Teacher Open House!
Please mark your calendars for our Meet the Teacher Open House Day, September 24 at 4:30pm . We look forward to welcoming families into the school, introducing you to our staff and classrooms, and sharing more about the learning ahead.
We know the beginning of a new school year brings lots of excitement—and sometimes a few butterflies too! Our goal is to make the transition as smooth and welcoming as possible for every student.
