Estimadas familias,
Professional Learning Update - Coding!
¡Felíz viernes! Today was a great Friday for your children's teachers. Professional learning days contribute to our collective success! As a school team we carefully consider how to use these valuable days each year. Today, our focus was to learn about block coding and exploring materials that we have purchased in support of the new Science Curriculum. Teachers playfully engaged in exploring "indy", "microbits" and "cutebots". These materials were purposefully selected for our K-5 population and allow for the development of computational thinking, logic and reasoning, as well as creative expression. We can't wait to share more with you. (You can check out some photos on my Instagram (@principalriquelme)
Garth Prince Music Residency
Our two week music residency with Juno-award winning musician Garth Prince starts next week. Planning for this residency started during the 2022-23 school year when our Music Specialist Srta. Jenn initially reached out to Garth to plan an experience tailored to our school. We are thrilled that it is nearly ready to start!
The ongoing CUPE job action is impacting our initial plans to host evening performances. We now must switch to daytime sharing. We are very aware that this may limit some parents/guardians from attending and we are disappointed by that. We are very pleased that the experience itself will continue and that students will be able to share their cumulative learning with an audience. Here is the new schedule:
Wednesday March 12 3:00pm-3:30pm | Thursday March 13 1:00pm - 1:45pm | Thursday March 13 2:15pm - 3:15pm |
Sra. Wolf - M/W Kinder | Srta. Kelsie- grade 1 | Sra. Wolf - T/Th Kinder |
Sra. Knight - M/W Kinder | Sra. Castro - grade 1 | Sr. Traxel - grade 1 |
Sra. Perera- grade 2 | Sra. Salamanca- grade 2
Sra. Rumel - grade 3 | Sra. Ana - grade 2
Sr. Reyes - grade 3 | Srta. Jeanne - grade 3
Sr. Gossen - grade 4 | Srta. Micah - grade 4
Sra. Tamara - grade 5 | Srta. Sofia - grade 4
Sra. Gray - grade 5 |
Please note that there is a very tight turn-around between the two performances on Thursday afternoon. We kindly ask that the first performance attendees clear the gym as quickly as possible so that other families can join us for the second performance. We realize that this is not our typical routine and appreciate everyone's patience as we adjust to the current reality of not having evening access to our school.
We would also like to confirm that audience members for these performances will consist of parents/guardians/grandparents only. Due to space and time constraints, we request that siblings remain in their classrooms.
