 Queridas familias,

As we approach the end of another wonderful school year, I would like to share several important updates and extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributes to the strength and spirit of our school community.

The CBE is reminding all students to save any files they wish to keep on a personal drive prior to June 26, 2026. This is especially important for students who are graduating or leaving the CBE, as access to their CBE accounts will end on August 31, 2026, after which their CBE email address and inbox will be permanently deleted. Please ensure that all important documents are transferred to personal storage before these dates.

I would also like to extend a warm thank‑you to our Kindergarten teachers, Educational Assistants, Grade One teachers, and our dedicated student leaders for welcoming next year’s incoming Kindergarten and Grade One students. Their thoughtful planning and leadership have helped create a positive transition for our newest learners. We look forward to meeting our new families at our year‑end celebration.

Congratulations to our Grade 4/5 students who participated in Art Reimagined. You may have seen it on the news! Your creativity, collaboration, and engagement with community hubs have been inspiring, and we are proud to celebrate your accomplishments.

Our student patrols deserve special recognition for their leadership and commitment to safety throughout the year, whether in wind, sun, or snow. Thank you as well to the teachers who guided and supported them in this important role.

Planning for next year has been completed based on the enrollment numbers received by the end of May. Please see our distribution for next year below:

Your fundraising efforts have enriched student experiences in countless ways, and we are deeply appreciative of your dedication and partnership. We look forward to welcoming our new School Council and Society members.

Yes! We’re having a Book Fair!

 Dear families,

We’re excited to announce that our first Owl’s Nest Book Fair is coming! You can shop for hundreds of items during our Spring Fiesta. Looking for something to read during summer break? Our Fair can help! It will be open on June 18, from 3:30 to 7:30 pm. Remember that all purchases help us earn new resources for our school. Students will have the opportunity to preview items with their classrooms earlier in the week and bring a wish-list home.

Important: In case you are unable to come to school, you can always shop online for an even larger selection of books! The virtual Bookfair will be open from June 1st to June 26th. Just click on the following link and don’t forget to use the promo EUGENE at checkout to ensure your purchase supports Eugene Coste School.

As Owl’s Nest do not have a physical selection of Spanish titles, they were kind enough to include a link of Spanish titles families can order online. Just make sure to use the promo code provided to get the credit for the fair! The link is:

TRANSPORTATION  Yellow School Bus Registration is Now Open for 2026-27

Families can now apply for the yellow school bus service for the 2026-27 school year. To ensure service is in place for the first day of classes, registrations must be received by Sunday, June 14.

Registrations submitted after this date will be accepted; however, access to bus routes may be delayed. Of note:

Confirmed bus routes will be posted for families who registered by the late  August deadline in MyCBE. The transportation fee has increased from $360 to $500/rider and from $180 to $250 for one-way kindergarten riders.

For several years, CBE was able to limit fee increases by using surplus funds to help offset rising costs. These funds were generated by delaying the implementation of shorter transportation-eligibility distances by two years. However, those surplus funds are now nearly exhausted.

At the same time, transportation costs have continued to rise, driven by factors such as increased fuel prices and the need for specialized support. As a result, a fee increase is necessary to balance the budget and maintain current service levels for students.

We remain committed to supporting families. Fee waivers and supports will be available to ensure students continue to access the transportation services they need.

Families can cancel without financial impact by submitting a cancellation form by  Sept. 30.

School Bus Rules

·         Students must stay seated and face forward while the bus is moving.

·         Hands, arms, and heads must be kept inside the bus.

·         Students should not get on, off, or move around the bus while it is moving.

·         Throwing items inside or outside the bus is not allowed.

·         Students are expected to be quiet and respectful to help keep the ride safe and calm. Loud noise that distracts the driver is not allowed.

·         Fighting, rough play, swearing, or rude behaviour is not allowed.

·         Students who damage the bus on purpose will be held responsible.

·         Students must follow the driver’s instructions when getting off the bus and only cross the road when it is safe.

·         Students and parents are not allowed on the bus unless the driver or school has given permission.
