Garth Prince Residency Sharing - Updates

We are thrilled with the learning experience that your students are receiving during this first week of our music residency with Juno-award winning Namibian-Canadian artist Garth Prince. All teachers are reporting wonderment at the skill and ability that Garth possesses in leading our students through his musical repertoire. We cannot wait to share the outcome of this learning with you during our sharing assemblies. As a reminder, please take note of the following:

Residency Sharing Updates

Please note that there is a very tight turn-around between the two performances on Thursday afternoon. We kindly ask that the first performance attendees clear the gym as quickly as possible so that other families can join us for the second performance. We realize that this is not our typical routine and appreciate everyone's patience as we adjust to the current reality of not having evening access to our school.

We would also like to confirm that audience members for these performances will consist of parents/guardians/grandparents only. Due to space and time constraints, we request that siblings remain in their classrooms.

We are also initiating a Spring Food Bank Drive . Please remember to bring non-perishable food items when you come to school for the sharing assemblies. Students may also bring items with them at any time from March 10-21.

March Conferences- Shift to Online – Booking starts March 13

Ongoing CUPE job action is limiting public access to the school in the evening. We are required to shift our Student-Led Conferences to an online Teacher-Led Conference format.

The online conference booking system will be available for parents to book a 15 minute session with their child’s home room teacher on March 13 starting at 4:30pm. Due to scheduling constraints, we can only accommodate one 15 minute meeting per student.

For students supported with an Individual Program Plan (IPP), please note that we did not originally plan to book separate meetings to formally update goals at this time, as that would not have been part of Student-Led Conferences. If you require additional time, please connect directly with your child’s teacher to arrange for an alternate arrangement in support of the IPP.

School Engagement – SDP, Fees and Budget Survey

We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we are asking you to share your perspectives about our school development plan, school budget and school fees.

  • The survey is open from March 4, 2025 to March 31, 2025.
  • You can learn more about our School Development Plan (SDP), Budget & Fees by reviewing the presentation posted on our website on the School Planning and Engagement page.
  • Then, please complete the survey.
  • You can also choose to attend our School Council meeting on Tuesday March 18 starting at 6:15pm, where we will walk you through our presentation.
  • Watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning. Your input is important to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspectives.

Personal Items In School – A reminder for everyone

An increasing number of toys and personal items are arriving at school. These create unnecessary distractions to learning and can cause conflict between students. Please remind your students to leave personal items at home. If something is needed to support a long bus ride, then it must remain in the student’s back pack. School staff is not responsible for any lost or stolen items that continue to be brought to school.

CUPE Job Action

All updated information for staff and public will continue to remain available and updated at:

We appreciate your patience and understanding as job action continues to impact aspects of our work at school, such as changes to our plans for in-person student-led conferences and evening learning celebrations.

Sincerely,

Sra. Andrea Riquelme, Principal
