Welcoming Back the Bees to Eugene Coste

Almost one year ago we welcomed our new bee friends to Eugene Coste School. The winter was hard on them and unfortunately the hive did not survive. On May 8th Aveole installed a new hive and they are doing very well. So well, in fact, that the beekeepers decided to split the hive into two! This is an important step to ensure that the bees don’t get overcrowded and have lots of space to pump up their production for the year. Special thanks to Aveole for taking such good care of our hive, answering all of our questions, and providing us with regular updates and photos.

Enrichment Society Board Elections

Last night our Eugene Coste School Council and Enrichment Society held their elections for positions with terms ending this school year. We would like to congratulate our returning Executive Council Chair (Baylea) and Co-Chair (Melinda) for their second term, as well as our new Enrichment Society Board President (David), Secretary (Alicia), Treasurer (Larissa) and Director at Large (Diana). We are grateful for all of the support our Council and Enrichment Society provide to our school community – we couldn’t do it without you!

Volunteer Tea

School is more than classrooms, teachers and students. It is about building community, both within the walls of our building and beyond. At Escuela Eugene Coste we are thrilled to have a strong network of volunteers that enrich the learning experience for all of our students. Volunteering takes many shapes:

Classroom helper, Reading with students, Field Trips, School Council & Eugene Coste Enrichment Society teams and special events, Memory Book, Hot Lunch days, Special Guest visits- talking about their work, lunch hour clubs…and more!

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all who have volunteered their time and expertise. Please join us on May 31!

Place-Based Learning Presentations- Haysboro 1km Radius!

As a team, we have determined that the best way to showcase student work from our place-based residency with Yellowsteps learning is through a week of presentations hosted in our Learning Commons, through an ‘installation”- style format.

Grade teams are designing learning displays that will be presented by each class during the week of May 27-30. In order to manage the sharing of 370 students, we needed to provide each class their own 40 minute block where they act as hosts for visiting parents/guardians

.It is important that guests arrive on time! This is not an open-house. Students will provide bilingual presentations in teams or as a whole group. You will then have the opportunity to visit other learning displays with you student hosts. We understand that the assigned block may not be ideal for your schedule. We appreciate your understanding as we work to personalize sharing for each group.

Grade Five Tour to Robert Warren

In preparation for their move into middle school at Robert Warren School, our grade fives spent the morning touring the school and getting to know their program a bit better. Highlights from the trip included visiting the shop to see all the ongoing student construction projects, learning about the band and art options, and seeing old Eugene Coste friends who are now in grade 6. Thank you to the teachers for organizing our visit and thank you to the Robert Warren leadership students for guiding us around the school!

Jump Rope for Heart- Kick Off on May 23

¡Muchas gracias! to our SPARK students for leading a successful Jump Rope for Heart Kickoff Assembly.

We have once again signed up to participate in the Jump Rope for Heart fundraising initiative through the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Through this initiative, students discover fun ways to get active, practice healthy habits and learn about helping others while raising money to beat heart disease and stroke. Jump Rope for Heart is more than a fundraiser. It teaches students 4 EASY Healthy Habits to help protect their heart and brain health – for a lifetime!
