Staffing Update – Assistant Principal Announcement

As I shared previously in my communication to you on May 9th, our current Assistant Principal, Sra. Jackie Michaud, has accepted the position of International Languages Specialist within our CBE Languages department, for the next school year. While we are sad to see Sra. Jackie go, it is alway wonderful to celebrate opportunities for growth and change. We thank Sra. Jackie for her 8 years of service to the Eugene Coste community as a Teacher, Learning Leader and Assistant Principal.

With that in mind, It is my pleasure to introduce you to our incoming Assistant Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. Please join me in welcoming Yasmina Rivas to our team! Yasmina is currently a Learning Leader at Escuela Glenmeadows, with a particular interest and expertise in STEM. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with Yasmina and show her how wonderful it is to be a part of our Eugene Coste community. She is looking forward to building relationships with you and your children.

Sensory Room Update

Our afternoon of professional learning today was focused on learning about how to incorporate our soon-to-be completed Sensory room to our Eugene Coste continuum of student supports. Our learning today was led by a system Inclusive Education Learning Leader and a system Occupational Therapist who covered the purpose and protocols for using the space.

Who can benefit from this room?

-          A child who needs a quiet place to decompress

-          A child who needs a proactive break to help keep their battery charged charged throughout the day

-          A child who is starting to become escalated in the classroom and need different strategies to redirect back to calm

We have begun to receive materials that students will be able to access when they are in the sensory room. We have selected a range of tactile (touch), visual (see) and loco-motor (movement) items that a range of students can be drawn to such as:

Sensory 1

Sensory 2

Sensory 3

“River rocks” for balance and course-building, touch-responsive light (floor tile), liquid floor tiles.
