Estimada Comunidad de Eugene Coste School,

The month of May is always a lively and energizing time at Eugene Coste, and this year is no exception. With the warmer weather, students are heading outdoors for rich land‑based learning experiences, and many classes are embarking on exciting field trips. Our Grade 3 students have been enthusiastically rehearsing for Que Pasa, while our Grade 4/5 students have proudly completed their Open Minds projects. Grade 5 students are eagerly preparing for camp, and Early Learning Reassessments are well underway. We also extend our appreciation to the Grade 4/5 students and volunteers who led Eugene Coste School’s El Carnaval project, an incredible opportunity for them to practice financial literacy while showcasing their creative entrepreneurial spirit to the school community. It is truly a vibrant month filled with meaningful, memorable learning experiences for our students.

A special thank‑you goes out to the parent volunteer who took such wonderful care of our Que Pasa costumes and Havana Social Dance who supported the choreography. Your efforts will help our students shine. We are excited for the Que Pasa event on May 12 at the Jubilee, where our Grade 3 students will proudly represent Escuela Eugene Coste.

We are also pleased to invite all our volunteers to a Volunteer Appreciation Tea on May 22 at noon. Our school simply would not be possible without the time, care, and commitment of our parents and community volunteers, and we look forward to celebrating you. A formal invite will be sent next week so we can coordinate numbers.

Our courtyard is being revitalized! We are happy to share that painting has begun this week. This long‑awaited improvement is possible thanks to the generous support of our School Council and Enrichment Society, as well as the dedicated parent volunteers who have already begun contributing their time and energy to this project. We are deeply grateful for the teamwork that is bringing this space to life.

We are still requesting your continued support in ensuring the office is informed each morning if your child will need to be picked up early. Our teachers are experiencing frequent interruptions due to unexpected call‑downs for students to come to the office, which disrupts learning and takes valuable time away from instruction. By letting the office know ahead of time, you help us maintain a smooth, focused learning environment for all students.

We encourage all families to join our School Council and Enrichment Society meeting on May 21. Elections for next year will take place, and class scenarios for the upcoming school year will be presented. Your involvement helps strengthen the great programs we offer at Eugene Coste, and we welcome your participation.

Fun Lunches

Fun lunches are offered throughout the year to students who wish to participate. We receive our lunches through Healthy Hunger, an online platform that delivers pre-ordered lunches to the school in which a portion of the proceeds goes to the school.

On the day of the event, lunches are sorted and delivered to your child’s classroom by parent volunteers. If you would like to participate, please register your child at www.healthyhunger.ca . Lunches must be ordered prior to midnight, 5 days before the fun lunch event.

We kindly ask that if your child is absent the day of the fun lunch, please contact the school prior to 10:30am, if you wish to pick it up the same day, after 1:30pm. If not specified, your food will be donated to someone in need of lunch. No refunds will be issued if your child is absent on the day of a Fun Lunch.

If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to parent support at www.healthyhunger.ca or email ecsfunlunch@gmail.com .

Our community is very busy as we share limited parking and roadways with neighbours and another school. Respectful driving and parking behaviour is appreciated by all. Please remember the following:
