Estimadas familias,

We are back to doing what we love most, providing meaningful, engaging learning experiences for our students. As we began this week, we had some wonderful treats in the staffroom every morning. We want to extend our sincere gratitude to our ECS School Council and community for the treats, motivating messages and heartfelt gestures; we are very grateful, you echo our culture of learning with heart - "aprender con corazon".

We would like to extend our gratitude to our phenomenal grade 4/5 community of learners and teachers for leading this year’s Remembrance Day Service. When leading these events, the work for students is not only to practice the performative aspects of the presentation but also to connect to the learning in the classroom. In this case, student voices made for some powerful connections. Thank you for honouring family members, both past and present, who have been involved with the Canadian military.

Our grade 4/5 students are also leading our Veterans food bank collection until November 14, 2025. The boxes have been placed by our front doors if you wish to drop off any non-perishable items.

Our grade 4/5 students have engaged with the OurSchool survey this week. This survey prioritizes student voice in well-being to support our decision-making processes in the school.

Please note that the Calgary Board of Education has not made significant changes to our November and December Traditional Calendar dates for 2025. We will be moving into Fall Break from November 8 to 12 and returning to school on November 13. Teachers will be holding conferences on November 27 and 28. You will receive more information to sign up after the break.

What date is that again? How do I find that information?! Please note that if your chat group is starting to flood with questions or doubts about anything, the most direct way to confirm information is by reaching out directly to the school. This can be through checking our website for posted calendars or resources, reviewing our weekly newsletter, emailing your child’s teacher or calling the office.

We are always available to help and reaffirm communication that has been provided, as well as address concerns should the need

arise.

My Child Takes the Bus

Please continue to remind your child of expected bus behaviour to support a safe ride home (stay in your assigned seat, stay seated at all times, appropriate volume of voice, be kind). As we have done in previous years, if your child normally takes the bus home but you will be picking them up, please meet us at the bus zone so that we can check in with you to confirm attendance. If you are picking up early or if there is a regular pick-up

schedule, at the bus, please call our office before 2:30 pm so that we can add that information to our bus lists and avoid after school confusion.

Fun Lunches

Fun lunches are offered throughout the year to students who wish to participate.  We receive our lunches through Healthy Hunger, an online platform that delivers pre-ordered lunches to the school in which a portion of the proceeds goes to the school.

On the day of the event, lunches are sorted and delivered to your child’s classroom by parent volunteers.  If you would like to participate, please register your child at www.healthyhunger.ca . Lunches must be ordered prior to midnight, 5 days before the fun lunch event.

We kindly ask that if your child is absent the day of the fun lunch, please contact the school prior to 10:30am, if you wish to pick it up the same day, after 1:30pm. If not specified, your food will be donated to someone in need of lunch. No refunds will be issued if your child is absent on the day of a Fun Lunch.

If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to parent support at www.healthyhunger.ca or email ecsfunlunch@gmail.com .

Parking!Parking!Parking!

Our community is very busy as we share limited parking and roadways with neighbours and another school. Respectful driving and parking behaviour is appreciated by all. Please remember the following:

What if I still have questions?

The start-up of a school year is a very busy and dynamic time.  We will do our best to respond to your questions as quickly as possible and thank you for your patience and understanding as we focus on readying our classrooms for your children.
