October 2, 2026
Queridas Familias,
As we begin the month of October, we would like to take a moment to celebrate the many wonderful events and accomplishments that have taken place in our school community during September.
Orange Shirt Day and Truth & Reconciliation
On Monday, we gathered for a meaningful Orange Shirt Day Assembly, helping us begin our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation for the 2026-2027 school year in a thoughtful and respectful way. This important event provided an opportunity for students and staff to reflect on the impacts of residential schools and the ongoing journey of reconciliation in Canada.
We encourage all families to take a look at Eugene Coste Schools Truth and Reconciliation Commitments (TRC) for this year. Together, we can continue learning, reflecting, and taking meaningful action toward reconciliation.
A special thank you to our Grade 5 students and teachers whose leadership, planning, and storytelling made the assembly meaningful. Your hard work helped create a powerful and memorable experience for our entire school community.
Individual Program Plans (IPPs)
Our teachers have been working diligently to complete Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals. If your child has an IPP, we hope you have already had the opportunity to collaborate with their teacher in determining goals for the school year. Families will be invited to review and sign IPPs by October 9.
Thank You to Our Parent Volunteers
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the many parent volunteers who support our school and make field trips possible. Your generosity of time allows students to participate in valuable learning experiences beyond the classroom. Without your support, many of these opportunities would not be possible. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our students.
Spirit Day Reminder
Our first Spirit Day of the school year will take place on Wednesday, October 14: Miércoles Monocromático (Monochromatic Wednesday)!
We invite all students and staff to select their favorite colour, dress from head to toe in that colour, and strut your stuff as we celebrate school spirit together. We look forward to seeing a colourful display of creativity throughout the school!
School Council and Enrichment Society Appreciation
A huge shout-out goes to our new School Council and Enrichment Society members for organizing such a wonderful Open House event. The delicious food trucks, welcoming atmosphere, and community spirit helped make the evening a great success.
We would also like to thank our graduating Council and Enrichment Society members for continuing to support the event and helping ensure a smooth transition. Your dedication to our school community is greatly appreciated.
Our next School Council Meeting will take place on October 15. We hope you will join us as we discuss upcoming school initiatives, celebrate successes, and continue working together to support student learning and well-being.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we are building a strong, caring, and vibrant school community for all students.

CBE Student Well-Being Survey
On Thursday, October 22, Grade 4 and 5 students will participate in the CBE Well-Being Student Survey. The survey explores areas such as belonging, positive relationships, safety, self-regulation and overall well-being. Results help our school and CBE identify opportunities to further support student success and well-being.
Lost… please find…
Our Lost and Found continues to be one of the busiest "departments" in the school! It is currently overflowing with jackets, hoodies, water bottles, lunch containers, hats, mittens, and even the occasional mystery item whose owner remains unknown.
One month in, we are beginning to wonder if some students are intentionally donating to the collection! 😊
The good news is that when items are labeled with a student's name, we can usually reunite them with their owner very quickly. The not-so-good news is that many of our lost items are completely anonymous, making them much harder to return.
If you cannot make it to the school to browse our ever-growing collection, please visit our @Eugene_Coste Instagram page, where we have posted videos of the current Lost and Found treasures.
Help us solve the mystery and reunite these lonely belongings with their families before they decide to make the Lost and Found their permanent home! 🧥🧢👟💧
Warm regards,
Carmen
