Dear Eugene Coste School Families,
As we continue settling into another wonderful school year, I would like to share a few important updates and upcoming events with our school community.
Alberta Literacy and Numeracy Assessments
Students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 will be engaging in the Alberta Literacy and Numeracy Assessments. These assessments provide valuable information about student learning and help us better understand how we can continue to support each child’s growth in literacy and numeracy.
Emergency Procedure Practice
Safety is always a priority at Eugene Coste School. This upcoming week, students and staff will be practising our fire drill and lockdown emergency procedures. These practices help ensure that everyone understands what to do in the event of an emergency and can respond safely and calmly.
School Council and Society Meeting
Our School Council and School Society will hold their first meeting online on September 17. We hope you will consider joining us! These meetings are a wonderful opportunity to connect with other families, learn more about our school, and contribute to our school community.

Volunteers
A heartfelt thank you to all of our new volunteers and those who are planning to volunteer this year. Your time and support make a meaningful difference for our students and school community.
If you are interested in volunteering and have not yet signed up, please remember to begin the process of obtaining your required police clearance. We look forward to welcoming many volunteers into our school throughout the year.
Health Plans and Peanut-Aware Community
Thank you to all families who have completed and returned health plans for students with specific health needs. Having this information in place helps us provide the appropriate support and care for our students throughout the school day.
Please also remember that Eugene Coste School is a peanut-aware community. We have students with severe peanut allergies, and we greatly appreciate families’ support in sending peanut-free lunches and snacks to school.
We also kindly ask families to remember to pack any necessary forks, spoons, or other utensils with your child’s lunch, as the school does not supply these items.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students.
School Bus Expectations
For families whose children travel to and from school by bus, please take some time to review the CBE transportation expectations with your child. Students are expected to follow all transportation rules and expectations to help ensure that everyone has a safe and respectful journey to and from school.
Open House and Book Fair – September 24
We are excited to welcome families to our Open House and Book Fair on September 24!
Families are invited to sign up for one of two available time slots:
4:30 p.m.
6:00 p.m.
Teachers will be sharing important information about their classrooms, student learning, and the curriculum for the year. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher and learn more about the exciting learning ahead.
We look forward to seeing you there and hope you will also have an opportunity to visit our Book Fair!

Welcome back to school. It seems like just yesterday we were wishing you a happy and safe summer break. We’re ready for fall and the returning kids are too!
To help parents get their kids back from pool-time to school-time, our fall issue features back-to-school resources including childcare, health & wellness practitioners and educational support tips and support. We've also included our extracurricular class & program guide as well as lots of ideas to help your school community enjoy the crisp weather and changing colors before the snow flies.

FUN LUNCH
We are excited to let you know that fun lunches are back for the 2026-27 school year! We receive our lunches through Healthy Hunger, an online platform that delivers pre-ordered lunches to the school in which a portion of the proceeds goes to the school.
Our first fun lunch will be on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, from Subway. If you wish to order and haven’t already set up your account, please do so atwww.healthyhunger.ca. Orders must be placed online through the Healthy Hunger website no later than midnight 5 days before the event. Likewise, if you need to cancel or change an order, you must do so on your profile 5 days before the event.
We kindly ask that if your child is absent the day of the fun lunch, please contact the school if you wish to pick it up or have it saved for your child. If not specified, your food will be donated to someone in need of a lunch. No refunds will be issued if your child is absent on the day of a Fun Lunch.

Donations
We are looking for donations of gently used clothing, especially girls' medium to large pull-on pants. If you have anything you can donate, please drop it off at the office.
