Dear Families,
We have had an exciting and successful week at Eugene Coste School!
Our Terry Fox Run was a tremendous success. A heartfelt thank you goes to our Grade 1 students and Srta. Kelsie for organizing this meaningful event. We are also grateful to the parents and family members who joined us to cheer on our students as they participated in support of Terry Fox's legacy of hope, perseverance, and commitment.
I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to our School Council and Enrichment Society for their ongoing support of our mission and commitment to student success. Our first Council meeting of the year set a positive and collaborative tone for the months ahead, and we look forward to working together to support our students and school community.
This week, we are excited to welcome families to our Open House and Meet the Teacher Evening. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child's teacher, explore our learning spaces, and perhaps pick up a new book at our Book Fair.
Teachers will provide presentations at 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. for families wishing to learn more about classroom routines, curriculum, and communication practices. If you are unable to attend a presentation, teachers will be sharing their slides afterward. There is no need to book an appointment; simply visit your child's classroom and sign in upon arrival.
For families of students with an Individualized Program Plan (IPP), teachers will have already connected with you to schedule a dedicated meeting time to discuss and establish goals for the upcoming school year.
Looking ahead, our next school assembly will recognize Orange Shirt Day. Together, we will reflect on the importance of Truth and Reconciliation and highlight the ways our school community continues to strengthen our understanding, learning, and commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

Welcome back to school. It seems like just yesterday we were wishing you a happy and safe summer break. We’re ready for fall and the returning kids are too!

Student Council and Enrichment Society
The first Student Council and Eugene Coste Enrichment Society meetings were held this past Thursday evening. Thank you to all those from the school community who came out and participated in the meetings. As a follow-up to those meetings, it may be useful to share what the focuses of both the Council and Enrichment Society are, as they have different roles within the school. The Student Council’s primary role is Advisory. The Enrichment Society's primary role is Fundraising. Both groups have dedicated parent volunteers helping to enhance the school's learning environment for our students. Without the Enrichment Society's hard work, we wouldn't be able to have our Latin dance, alien inline skating, and art residencies this year. Without council, we wouldn't have a direct line from the parents to the school. Each has an important role to play and each needs the help of our great parent community.
We are sharing two sign-up links: one for the Student Council and the other for the Enrichment Society. This will help us gather a list of interested parents who wish to be more directly involved, such as becoming members, volunteering for events, or helping with Fundraising activities. Thank you for considering your role in the school community. We look forward to your responses.

FUN LUNCH
We are excited to let you know that fun lunches are back for the 2026-27 school year! We receive our lunches through Healthy Hunger, an online platform that delivers pre-ordered lunches to the school in which a portion of the proceeds goes to the school.
Our first fun lunch will be on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, from Subway. If you wish to order and haven’t already set up your account, please do so at www.healthyhunger.ca. Orders must be placed online through the Healthy Hunger website no later than midnight 5 days before the event. Likewise, if you need to cancel or change an order, you must do so on your profile 5 days before the event.
We kindly ask that if your child is absent the day of the fun lunch, please contact the school if you wish to pick it up or have it saved for your child. If not specified, your food will be donated to someone in need of a lunch. No refunds will be issued if your child is absent on the day of a Fun Lunch.

We are looking for donations of gently used clothing, especially girls' medium to large pull-on pants. If you have anything you can donate, please drop it off at the office.
