Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Open House and Meet the Teacher evening. It was wonderful to see so many families in our school and classrooms. We hope your child had the opportunity to complete their passport and proudly show you around the school. Building strong home-school connections is an important part of student success, and we appreciate your partnership.
This coming Monday is Orange Shirt Day, an important opportunity for our school community to recognize the impacts of residential schools and to honour survivors and their families. We would like to extend a special thank you to our Grade 5 students, who are taking a leadership role in supporting this learning and helping us mark this important day.
Our teaching staff continue to work diligently on the Alberta Education Learning Assessments. These assessments help us better understand each child's strengths and learning needs in literacy and numeracy so that we can provide the best possible supports. We anticipate completing these assessments by October, and additional information regarding results and next steps will be shared with families once the process is complete.
As we move further into the school year, many teachers are beginning to organize field trips and learning experiences that will enhance classroom learning.
We also want to thank our teachers for helping our School Council better support our learning environments and curriculum through the collaborative wish lists.
Thank you for your continued support of our school community. We look forward to another wonderful week of learning together.

Donations
We are looking for donations of gently used clothing, especially girls' medium to large pull-on pants. If you have anything you can donate, please drop it off at the office.

Welcome back to school. It seems like just yesterday we were wishing you a happy and safe summer break. We’re ready for fall and the returning kids are too!
To help parents get their kids back from pool-time to school-time, our fall issue features back-to-school resources including childcare, health & wellness practitioners and educational support tips and support. We've also included our extracurricular class & program guide as well as lots of ideas to help your school community enjoy the crisp weather and changing colours before the snow flies.

Student Council and Enrichment Society
The first Student Council and Eugene Coste Enrichment Society meetings were held this past Thursday evening. Thank you to all those from the school community who came out and participated in the meetings. As a follow-up to those meetings, it may be useful to share what the focus of both the Council and Enrichment Society is, as they have different roles within the school. The Student Council’s primary role is Advisory. The Enrichment Society's primary role is Fundraising. Both groups have dedicated parent volunteers helping to enhance the school's learning environment for our students. Without the Enrichment Society's hard work, we wouldn't be able to have our Latin dance, alien inline skating, and art residencies this year. Without council, we wouldn't have a direct line from the parents to the school. Each has an important role to play and needs the help of our great parent community.
We are sharing two sign-up links: one for the Student Council and the other for the Enrichment Society. This will help us gather a list of interested parents who wish to be more directly involved, such as becoming members, volunteering for events, or helping with Fundraising activities. Thank you for considering your role in the school community. We look forward to your responses.

FUN LUNCH
We are excited to let you know that fun lunches are back for the 2026-27 school year! We receive our lunches through Healthy Hunger, an online platform that delivers pre-ordered lunches to the school in which a portion of the proceeds goes to the school.
Our first fun lunch will be on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, from Subway. If you wish to order and haven’t already set up your account, please do so atwww.healthyhunger.ca. Orders must be placed online through the Healthy Hunger website no later than midnight 5 days before the event. Likewise, if you need to cancel or change an order, you must do so on your profile 5 days before the event.
We kindly ask that if your child is absent the day of the fun lunch, please contact the school if you wish to pick it up or have it saved for your child. If not specified, your food will be donated to someone in need of a lunch. No refunds will be issued if your child is absent on the day of a Fun Lunch.
