Dear Eugene Coste Families,
What a wonderful start to the school year! It has been a pleasure welcoming our students back and seeing classrooms filled with enthusiasm, curiosity, and excitement for learning. Thank you to our families for helping make our first week of school such a success.
A Strong Start to the School Year
Today, we held our Welcome Back Assembly, providing students with an opportunity to meet our new staff, reconnect with familiar faces, and become acquainted with the many caring adults who support them throughout the school day. The assembly also reminded students of their important role in taking pride in and caring for Eugene Coste School.
As September progresses, we remain committed to fostering a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environment for all members of our school community. Creating this environment requires intentional action every day through kindness, inclusion, responsibility, and respect. We encourage our students, staff, and families to work together in building a positive school culture where everyone feels valued and supported.
Communication and Community Partnerships
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the parents and guardians who have reached out when they notice something that may impact our school community. Your care, attention, and commitment to Eugene Coste School are greatly appreciated. We have a wonderful community! By working together, we can address concerns proactively and continue to create the best possible environment for our students.
This week, our extended support teams, including the Grounds Unit, visited the school to address areas of overgrowth and ensure our outdoor spaces remain welcoming. In addition, our Facility Operator regularly conducts building and site inspections and submits maintenance requests as needed to keep our school in excellent condition.
As a team, we are making Eugene Coste School a wonderful place to learn, grow, and belong. The partnership between families, staff, students, and district support teams plays an important role in the success of our school community.
Communication is the foundation of a strong and successful relationship.
We encourage families to continue reaching out with questions, concerns, or observations. Even if it means my inbox is full! Open communication allows us to work collaboratively, strengthen our partnerships, and support the success and well-being of all students.
Parent Council and Enrichment Society
Our Parent Council and Enrichment Society are invaluable partners in the work we do at Eugene Coste School. Their dedication and support help strengthen our school community and enrich opportunities for our students.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to members of both groups for providing coffee and cookies on Monday and Tuesday morning for new parents. This thoughtful gesture created a welcoming opportunity for new and returning families to connect, build relationships, and put faces to names as we begin another school year together. If you were unable to make, no worries! There will be an opportunity to connect during our Open House.
Please mark your calendars for Thursday, September 17, when our first Parent Council Meeting of the school year will take place online. We encourage all families to participate and learn more about the important work being done to support our school community. We look forward to another year of collaboration and engagement with our families as we work together to support the success of all students.
Parking and Traffic Safety
As we settle into our routines, we kindly ask all families to respect the parking and traffic signage around the school. These regulations are in place to ensure the safety of our students, families, staff, and community members during busy arrival and dismissal times.
No Dogs on School Grounds
A reminder that dogs are not permitted on school grounds during school hours. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all students.

These events provide excellent opportunities to learn more about our school, meet staff, and connect with other families.
Student Health Plans
If your child has healthcare needs that require support during the school day, please ensure that a Health Plan is submitted through the school office as soon as possible. This information helps us provide appropriate care and respond effectively to your child's needs.
Early Student Pick-Up
School dismissal is an especially busy time of day. If you need to pick up your child before the end of the school day, we ask that you notify the office in advance whenever possible. This helps minimize classroom disruptions and ensures our phone lines remain available for urgent and emergency situations. If you are picking up students at the end of the day and they are on the bus, please pick them up at the bus line. If they are in Child’s Play, please pick them up at their doors. Do not phone the school and ask for them to be sent out their regular door.
Toys and Play Items from Home
To support a focused and positive learning environment, students should not bring toys or play items from home unless specifically requested by their classroom teacher. These items can become distracting, may be misplaced or damaged, and can sometimes lead to student frustration or conflict.
Our school provides a variety of playground and gym equipment for students to enjoy during recess and outdoor activities. We encourage students to take advantage of the equipment available at school and leave personal toys and play items at home.
Dress for the Weather!
As the wet and colder weather approaches, we would like to remind families that students will continue to go outside for recess unless the temperature falls below -20°C or there is a severe air quality warning. Outdoor recess provides valuable opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and fresh air.
To ensure that all students can fully participate and remain comfortable throughout the day, we kindly ask that they arrive at school dressed appropriately for the weather conditions, including suitable outerwear, footwear, and accessories as needed.

Welcome back to school. It seems like just yesterday we were wishing you a happy and safe summer break. We’re ready for fall and the returning kids are too!
To help parents get their kids back from pool-time to school-time, our fall issue features back-to-school resources including childcare, health & wellness practitioners and educational support tips and support. We've also included our extracurricular class & program guide as well as lots of ideas to help your school community enjoy the crisp weather and changing colors before the snow flies.

FUN LUNCH
We are excited to let you know that fun lunches are back for the 2026-27 school year! We receive our lunches through Healthy Hunger, an online platform that delivers pre-ordered lunches to the school in which a portion of the proceeds goes to the school.
Our first fun lunch will be on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, from Subway. If you wish to order and haven’t already set up your account, please do so at www.healthyhunger.ca. Orders must be placed online through the Healthy Hunger website no later than midnight 5 days before the event. Likewise, if you need to cancel or change an order, you must do so on your profile 5 days before the event.
We kindly ask that if your child is absent the day of the fun lunch, please contact the school if you wish to pick it up or have it saved for your child. If not specified, your food will be donated to someone in need of a lunch. No refunds will be issued if your child is absent on the day of a Fun Lunch.
