Estimadas familias, The last two weeks have provided our community with plenty of opportunities to connect and celebrate student learning. I hope you are as thrilled as we all were with our Latin Dance Residency sharing nights. Students from K-5 amazed their families, teachers and of course our dance instructors Marcos and Patricia with their tremendous skill development over a very short period of time! We calculated that each student, if they were present for every PE class, would have received about 3 hours of instruction in order to participate in each of the dance routines. That is an incredible amount of progress! We would also like to celebrate the observable improvement in student performance year over year; Marcos immediately noticed that he could add further complexity to each routine because our students had already built up a strong foundation! It was especially thrilling to welcome our CBE Chief Superintendent, Joanne Pitman to our performance last night and share our Spanish Bilingual program with her. Several families have asked about the music that was used for each dance. Here is a summary: Kindergarten - Nina Bonita by Chino y Nacho (merengue) Grade 1- Mujer Latina by Thalia (merengue) Grade 2- La Reina Del Baile by Manuel Carrasco (flamenco) Grade 3 - La Carretera by Prince Royce (bachata) Grade 4 - Yamulemau by Joe Arroyo, La Verdad (salsa) Grade 4 - Rompe by Daddy Yankee (reggaeton) I would like to once again extend our gratitude to our parent community and in particular our Eugene Coste School Council and Enrichment Society for their ongoing collaboration and partnership with our school. This residency was brought to all students without additional fees to families thanks to the tireless fundraising efforts led by our EC Enrichment Society. This truly embodied what enrichment can look like, through the lens of authentic Hispanic cultural experiences.
Giving Tree (Dec 2-13)- we are currently accepting donations in $10 increments through the purchase of gift cards that will be shared with families in our community who can benefit from a boost this holiday season. We are seeking gift cards for businesses like Superstore, Walmart or gas stations. Please ensure your donation is in an envelope and clearly labelled as we do need to keep track of donations for accounting purposes. Cash donations are also accepted which will allow for the purchase of additional gift cards. Again, please send in a clearly labelled envelope. Additional Dates: Dec 12 - Pizza Hut Fun Lunch Dec 16- Robert Warren Jazz Band performance Dec 20 - Last Day of School
I hope you have an enjoyable weekend and can take advantage of the warm chinook that we are experiencing!
